A Salad That’s NOT On Your Diet

Who doesn’t love a good salad?!  Especially the kind that leaves you wanting MORE and MORE after you’ve taken the *last* bite.  This little “salad” reminds me of my sister-in-law, Bobbi Ann…the one who’s recipes I like to steal and claim as my own.  Bobbi made this little number for Christmas Eve several years ago and I’ve been making it ever since.  Because my appetite is so insatiable, I could definitely take down the entire thing all by my lonesome.  You’ll see why when you make it for yourself :)

COATED GRAPE SALAD

2 lbs. red and/or green grapes

1 (8oz.) pkg. of cream cheese

1 (8oz.) container of sour cream

1/2 cup of sugar

1/2 tsp. vanilla

chopped walnuts/pecans {optional}

brown sugar {optional}

This is all you’ll need {plus the grapes} for one of the best “salads” I promise you’ll ever eat.

Combine cream cheese, sour cream, vanilla, & sugar in a large bowl and beat together with mixer.

Wash your grapes and remove from the stems.  Fold into the cream cheese mix until well coated and VOILA!  The best salad that won’t ever make an appearance in your weight loss diet.

For a little color flair, mix it up with a pound of green & a pound of red grapes.  If you’re feelin’ a little fiesty, add some chopped walnuts or pecans for a little crunch and sprinkle on some brown sugar for an added sweetness.  When Bobbi first made this salad, she included the walnuts and brown sugar.  Don’t get me wrong…it was pretty tasty that way, too…but the less steps, the better and I just prefer most of my things ‘nutless’ I guess :)  This is a PERFECT dish to bring to a party, make for a shower, or to hoard all for yourself.  I made this for a little volunteer breakfast we had at school the other day and there wasn’t a grape left in the bowl by the end of the day.  Can’t wait to have an excuse to make it again!!

  4. Thanks for the shout-out! This is definitely a big hit in our family too and I was just thinking of making this the other day!! Never thought of the crushed butterfingers but will definitely try it!
    Some people who see this originally think twice, but after a little coaxing and the first bite they can't get enough of it!

  5. Love your blogs...I just made this to take to my parent's house for Easter dinner. I used grapes, strawberries, apples, and pineapple instead of just grapes. Tasted it already and it's DELICIOUS!!! Thanks for the idea!

  9. Hey... leave off the brown sugar and this is not so bad for you. Ir might not be exactly paleo, but it's high protein with the cream cheese and nuts. Replace the sour cream with Greek yogurt and it's really pretty healthy. You could even use Neufchatel instead of cream cheese. It tastes the same to me, but has half the calories.

  11. This was absolutely awesome. I couldn't use grapes as they are currently not in season in Australia... but I used a mixture of apples, strawberries and pineapples and came back from a pot luck with a completely empty bowl! Thanks so much for this recipe

  13. An ex boyfriend's aunt made this for us a loooong time ago (back when I was young enough to not worry about what I ate!!) And I remember her using a tub of Cool Whip too... Does this sound familiar to anyone? It was SO GOOD!

  14. I found this on Pinterest yesterday and was forced to try it! :-) I just made it and it is CRAZY delish!! I went all the way with walnuts and brown sugar and it is out of this world good! I think the crunch of the nuts with the creamy coating is just amazing together! I remember having dished like this at different things growing up, but had totally forgotten about it...thank you so much for posting this!

  17. I have been making grape salad for years. I am required to bring it to every family gathering and pot luck. To make it a little healthier I use half greek yogurt and half fat free sour cream, no cream cheese. Then I use brown sugar because it gives it a little depth of flavor and pairs a little nicer with the sourness of the grapes.

  20. I love this salad and make it often for me and my husband. I wondered if anyone has substituted Splenda in place of all the sugar?

  27. I made this salad last week and my family loved it! I put a link on my blog ( A Cup, A Cup) for this recipe. It really inspired me to combine your ingredients with a fruit salad my mother in law makes. In the end, I came up with Triple Berry Delight. Thank you for inspiration!!!

  29. I just saw this recipe on Pinterest and cannot wait to try it! Reminds me a bit of the apple Snicker dessert (with cool whip and vanilla pudding) -- would like to make it healthier, so would it be ok with low-fat cream cheese and low-fat sour cream?

    So many options and suggestions! I just might have to make 2 separate batches! (the original and then all the above suggestions!)
