Okay...so I've never been very organized when it comes to planning meals. I've tried off and on, but I never stick to it. I’m usually the kinda person who remembers a great recipe or hears about a new one during the day and then rushes out to the grocery store after work to pick up the ingredients…along with about 50 other things we don’t need {especially if I’m shopping at Target!!!!} Now that we're I'm trying to cut back on the number of grocery trips I make each week…and the amount of money I spend each trip…I knew that I would HAVE to plan for the week. And now that Mr. Spouse isn't working so late as much, I'm cooking A LOT more than I have been in recent months.
SO...here's what I decided:
I'll plan the week's meals on Sunday afternoon & then head to the grocery store and pick up everything AT ONCE. Yikes. Although I LOVE shopping at Kroger’s, it's KILLING the bank, so I do all my BIG shopping at Wal-Mart {as much as I hate the tightly packed aisles, you seriously CAN'T BEAT the prices…I love me some Wal-Mart!!} I'll cook on Sunday night and make a little something we can eat throughout the week {like a soup or something equally delicious as leftovers}. Then I'll cook every night that Mr. Spouse is home. On the nights he has a game, I'll dine on leftovers or cereal...I LOVE cereal!!!!! Now, this was my first week to meal plan, so we'll see if I can keep it up!!!!
With the exception of Sunday & Wednesday, all of these recipes are new! SO, I can't vouch for tastiness or ease of cooking. BUT, if you wanna take a peek at Wednesday's Cream Cheese Crock Pot Chicken, head over to Meredith's blog...one of our faves!!!! I'll be back next week with pics of these delicious delicacies!!!
Sunday: Tomato Basil Soup & Italian Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
Monday: Chicken & Broccoli Casserole & Corn Muffins
Tuesday: Baked Ziti with Fire Roasted Tomatoes & French Bread
Wednesday: Cream Cheese Crock Pot Chicken & Green Beans
Thursday: Sausage 'n' Tater Casserole & a Steamable Veggie Medley
So tell me...do you have any good ideas for meal planning?!?!?
I hope your meal planning goes well. I hope you chicken and broccoli casserole turns out better than the one I made tonight, it was new but not a keeper. I am anxious to hear how all your recipes turn out. I agree with you on the Kroger vs Walmart.
ReplyDeleteLove your menu "medium".... very stylish, very nice "chalk writing" too = )
ReplyDeleteHey! I try to plan my weekly menu too. It really helps me shop more wisely rather than walk down the aisles and go "what's for dinner this week." Thanks to Libby I have really started couponing too. Helps on the budget and to stockpile stuff we use regularly. I am going to try to start doubling some of my meals and put one in the freezer. Especially since I just got a new garage freezer!! Yeah!!

ReplyDeleteHi! Let me first say that I LOVE your blog! I have it bookmarked so that I can get to it easily. We have started meal planning just recently and we found a website that makes it super easy. www.e-mealz.com they have many types of food options. we do the walmart 2 person points system plan. (trying to lose some weight after having my baby) They give you the meals for the week and then the shopping list. ours normally costs around $40 a week. We do not always make every meal we pick the ones that sound good and fill the rest of the days with our favorite meals or the ones that I find off your blog, but for us it has helped a bunch and saved us some money too! Let me know if you try it and like it.
ReplyDeleteI love, love this idea!!! You have a wonderful blog site.
