Have you ever eaten at an Italian restaurant and found yourself torn between pasta with alfredo or marinara?! Ummm…me?! Not so much. I’m a marinara girl all the way, but every now and then I like a little alfredo in my life. I love this pasta because it combines the best of both worlds and ohmiword…it.is.GOOD. This little pasta bake required all of no time to prep, but tasted like I spent hours in the kitchen.
TWO TIMIN’ PASTA BAKE
1 box penne pasta
1 (15 oz.) jar Alfredo sauce
1 (24oz.) jar Marinara sauce
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup shredded parmesan cheese
Cook pasta according to directions and drain. Mix the sauces together in a large bowl.
Add the mozzarella and stir to combine. Then toss in the penne and toss to coat.
Pour pasta into 9x13 baking dish and cook on 350 for 20-25 minutes or until bubbly. Remove from oven and sprinkle with shredded parmesan cheese and bake for another 5 minutes.
SO yum!!! We paired ours with a few slices of fresh garlic bread and it was definitely reminiscent of being in a restaurant….with naked kids running through the dining room & chasing each other with legos. Wow. TMI. If you’re looking for an easy weeknight dinner that’s full of flavor, then this is it!!!!
awesome idea!!! my husband and i LOVE a similar dish at the local italian restaurant because we are very much in the middle of the two.
ReplyDeletei LOVE your blog btw. i just started blogging but i've been getting ideas from yours for the past year. my husband knows when it came from your blog because they are always his favorite things! so thankful for this.
Just moved back to East Texas, but was in Allen for about 18 months. And my favorite place is Joe's Italian Bistro and I love me some Joe's Chicken. Was wondering if that could possibly be what Kelly is referring to. If not, it is still my favorite!!
ReplyDeleteAmy you must be referring to chicken vento.has everything like that but has mushrooms and onions.it's .so great ate it everyday.
DeleteThis sounds like a great dish. I have made a tomato based cream sauce before and loved it, but your version is much easier and mommy friendly!!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, BTW.
yum! I made this and posted it to my blog (giving you credit of course) So delicious, it was a crowd pleaser, thanks for the idea!
ReplyDeleteI made this last night for dinner and it was delicious! I added chicken and some frozen broccoli to it before I baked it and it really rounded out the meal. I think next time I'll add some more kick to the sauce like red peppers or something like that. We like it spicy around here.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the great recipe!
Instead of marinara try arriabata sause, its zesty and delicious.
DeleteI added some leftover italian sausages we grilled the night before and it was delish!
ReplyDeleteShould you boil the pasta first or put it in the cheese as is and bake it?
ReplyDeleteI'm about 99% sure she boiled the pasta first.
ReplyDeleteSounds yummy, planning on making it this week!
I made this last night! I added a couple dashes of crushed red pepper flakes to my sauce mixture...yum! I had it again for lunch today. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteI've made this like 5 times since I found the recipe a month ago. It is one of my husband's favorites now. Thanks! Love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI love this recipe. Making it tonight for the 2nd time. It's a big hit around here.
ReplyDeletewhat size box of pasta is used?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely delish dish! I added some chicken to it as well..its perfect!
ReplyDeleteI just made this for dinner, and it was delicious! The recipe makes a lot of pasta too- I'll have leftovers for days! Yum!
ReplyDeleteI made a lighter version of this tonight and YUM!! I used Dreamfield pasta, light alfredo, and 2% cheese. The family loved it! I nice break from the ho hum spaghetti and fettuccine alfredo~
ReplyDeleteMade this for dinner tonight and my very picky kids loved it!
ReplyDeletewhat size of box of penne pasta should be used?? this looks amazing :) cant wait to make it!
ReplyDeleteI make a pasta bake where you *don't* have to cook the noodles first. I bet this would work as well. My version is just the Marinara sauce (and then water), but I bet the Alfredo sauce would be a perfect replacement for the water! Other differences, higher temp cooking and covering the dish with foil for the first 35 minutes. (I'm not explaining it very well...you can see it here: http://zimmerzoo.com/2010/02/01/makes-my-monday-family-meals/ )
ReplyDeleteI'm TOTALLY trying it with Alfredo sauce!! Thank you :)
If you put in dry pasta and make it ahead (morning of or night before) the pasta will get soft and bake, then you won't have any of that watery liquid.
DeleteI'm making this for the second time tonight. It is amazing! The first time I made it, my mom came over for dinner and we both ate two servings. Also, it's even better reheated. I can't wait for dinner tonight! Thank you for sharing this recipe!
ReplyDeleteThis pasta was absolutely scrumptious! I have been looking for a recipe JUST LIKE THIS ONE! Thanks for sharing! I look forward to trying some of your other recipes as well :)
ReplyDeleteI made this for dinner tonight and it was SO YUMMY! Even my dad ate it and he hates all things pasta and italian. And really easy. AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteGreat recipe! Easy to make and tastes good too. I will be making this more often. The whole family loves it.
ReplyDeleteThis recipe was delicious. I added the pepper flakes as suggested above and also a bag of cooked crumbled Jimmy Dean sausage.
ReplyDeleteTrying this tonight.. Thanks for the recipe!!
ReplyDeleteI want to make this for a friend as a freezer meal, have you ever frozen it or do you think it would freeze well?
ReplyDeleteI freezemeals a lot...I'd do everything up until the baking part.when you pull it put either thaw in fridge or put into the oven and bake a little longer!
Deleteanyone that used chicken, how long and what temp did you bake it?
ReplyDeleteI would cook the chicken first, then cook it the same temp and same amount of time.
DeleteWow. This was many things...super cheap, super fast to throw together and super delicious! Tastes like restaurant quality!!! I used bertoli Alfredo and bertoli olive oil and garlic marinara so that have it a nice kick ;) thank you do much!!! Now into my rotation!!!!
ReplyDeletecant wait to try this. i am a total alfredo girl, but my boyfriend prefers marinara sauce.
ReplyDeleteThis was amazing!! So pleased with how it came out :) Thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteThis was super easy and delicious!!! Not the most figure flattering type meal but worth the splurge!! I used whole grain penne(didnt even taste a difference!!) and added some sauteed mushrooms and chicken! Delish! Thanks for the recipe!

Thanks for a great recipe!

ReplyDeleteI just made this today and it was AWESOME!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you
Making this for the second time tonight. My picky eaters loved it the first time!!
ReplyDeleteThe recipe says one box of penne pasta, so I'm assuming whatever the regular size is at your local store. I think when I looked last, it was around 13oz's but don't hold me to it! Anyways! Looking forward to trying this later in the evening with salad before hand then yummy meatballs added in. If it's a hit, I plan to try it with Jimmy Dean's hot sausage (cooked and crumbled before mixed in) for a kick. Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteMade this tonight and it's a definite hit for my family. Added 2 cups of cooked chicken and it was fabulous. Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteI'm making this tonight for my sweetie! I'm super excited, I found this on Pinterest. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI make mine just like that but i use cheese tortellini
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried freezing this? I'm thinking of making a few (up until the oven part) and freezing them, so I can just take them out and pop one in the oven. Has anyone tried that, and how did it turn out?
ReplyDeleteThis recipe sounds super simple, yummym and relatively easy on my pregnant swollen feet SO I'm making this tonight! I plan on putting in some italian sausage and broccoli.
ReplyDeleteI have to say this is my favorite dish at Olive Garden. I always plan on saving half and make myself sick eating the whole thing lol. Its delicious! Gunna have to try this.
ReplyDeleteI've been making something similar from a cookbook. I love the alfredo and marinara together, we haven't added the parm though.
ReplyDeleteI tried this today and it was sooooo amazing, it was a win in my family. Ill be making it for kids for a birthday party soon!

ReplyDeleteMy husband and I loved this! We sauted some shrimp in garlic and butter, then added it before baking... SO good. Thanks!
ReplyDeletethis looks like something my family would love, totally just removed the "whats for dinner" decison out of my head for the day. I've never purchased alfredo sauce so this will be a first for us.
ReplyDeleteBTW I LOVE your blog title! very clever and definately, we are kindred spirits!
Ever since I found your recipe I make it ALL THE TIME! I always used to order this from Olive Garden, so now I get to try new dishes there since I get to make this at home. Everyone I've made it for loves it as well. Amazing!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite homemade dish. I use spaghetti sauce and it tastes just as great! I also make my own Alfredo and spaghetti sauce.
ReplyDeleteI love love love love love this recipe!!!
I made this when my parents came over for dinner. I made my own alfredo sauce and mixed it with a jar of marinara. It was really popular!
ReplyDeleteI blogged about making this on my website at
http://bloginspiredcooking.blogspot.com/2013/06/two-timin-pasta-sauce.html
Thank you so much for sharing! I've made this several times now and we love it. I love that you don't have to include a meat (although, you could if you wanted), it's super easy, and super filling! We always have an open jar of each sauce in our fridge and this is a great way to use them up. Thank you again!
ReplyDeleteDo you think this would freeze well? I am making meals for a family and trying to give them a good variety.
ReplyDeleteMade this a few weeks ago for our church potluck. NOTHING was left of it and I even doubled the recipe and added meatballs! Everyone raved about it and wanted the recipe!
ReplyDeleteI love this half and half! I use Classico Alfredo and Prego three cheese instead. Also, you must try the Buitoni fresh linguini with it, mmmmmm!
ReplyDeleteWe have made this a couple of times now! Perfect for busy nights! We added meat to ours too because it's more filling for my boyfriend that way. But it's definitely on our weekly rotation. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLOVE LOVE LOVE this recipe! I've made it several times now and a bunch of my friends make it now too. I always add Jimmy Dean precooked sausage crumbles and sometimes I add in Ricotta cheese as well! YUMMY!! Thanks to you for this recipe and thanks to Pinterest for letting me find it!
ReplyDeleteI made this tonight with garlic bread. It was so good. Thanks for the recipe!
ReplyDeleteGreat recipe!! Even my picky 12 year old son loved it! His favorite is the Baked Ziti recipe I make, but he informed me that he just might like this recipe better. Personally, I like mine a little spicy so I add crushed red pepper to my own plate. YUM!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing....I've already shared your recipe with many friends and family.
This is the best recipe! We overate and wanted more. The OG five cheese ziti is the only thing I eat there. And this is just like it! Thank you so much for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteI will be making this recipe for the second time tonight, this time for guests:) my husband and I absolutely loved it! Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteTry adding a pound of Italian sausage to it. This is our family's favorite meal. We have it like once a month and it rocks. Thanks!
